Naming Ceremonies

Naming Ceremonies are as old as the human race and considered by many to be an integral introduction of a child to the world by their family and friends. The ceremony can be used for the welcoming of a new baby, adopted child, a stepchild or a member of the community. It commonly consists of the following:-

  • Welcome
  • Poems and Songs
  • Readings from Godparents/Guardians (Mary can provide suggestions)
  • A blessing from the parents (and the guests if you like)
  • Presentation of a certificate or a symbolic gift (eg a candle)

The ceremony is not usually religious but this can be incorporated.  Mary can offer different ritual ideas (eg candles, a wishing well, sand ceremony). Mary is happy to work closely with you to help you welcome your new addition.
